This course aims to enhance your overall English skills to help you access employment. You will create a CV and gain an understanding of the application process. You learn how to sell yourself at interview and develop your questioning and answer skills.
Who is the course aimed at?
This programme is designed to increase a learners basic skills knowledge within English prior to undertaking any accredited English qualifications to help build up your confidence before undertaking further learning.
Entry requirements
An individual aged nineteen (19) or over on 31st August within the Contract Period, residing within the eight (8) Staffordshire districts. All target groups, and specifically: parents, carers and guardians who wish to develop their skills, and new adult Learners.
Course content
You will enhance an existing CV or create new one that can be used when looking for employment. You will develop your confidence at interview and learn how to ‘sell yourself’ at interview and develop your question and answer skills.
Learning methods
The trainer will deliver the course in a friendly and welcoming classroom environment. You will have the opportunity to work independently and with your peers in a range of activities and discussions.
Learning Support
All sessions are adapted according to the individual needs of learner. Accessibility: Newcastle: Inaccessible for those with limited mobility. Burton: Ground floor fully accessible. Biddulph: Lift available fully accessible. English and Maths initial assessments are carried out prior to the start of the course. Our dedicated enrolment and support team are also available from 08.00am to 5.00pm Monday to Friday via our enrolment office number as well as via email and enabled chat facilities.
Course assessments
Learners will be initially assessed to identify their starting points, personal goals and recognise any support needs. During the course learners will be assessed via informal feedback on work produced, verbal feedback during discussions & Q & A. Learners will also take part in reviews consistent with the length of the course.

Learner will be provided with all course materials as part of the programme.

Throughout your course you will be provided with information and advice about other learning opportunities available. We have a range of opportunities for you to progress onto based on your needs and aspirations. Progression could include a Functional Skills English course.
