This year Staffordshire Community Learning is promoting the Family Learning Festival which encourages families to learn together.
The Family Learning Festival inspires a love of learning in family life. It takes place from 19 Oct to 3 Nov 2019 and is the biggest festival celebrating and valuing learning as a family.
Organisations of all types and sizes from schools and children centres, through libraries to museums and galleries put on brilliant and creative events, and showcase ideas and learning opportunities that families can do afterwards.
The overarching theme for this year is ‘Future Families”. The theme includes:
Digital discoverers – how to stay safe online and get the most out of technology – from surfing the internet to creating their own family animation.
Wellbeing Warriors – activities to support the emotional, physical and mental wellbeing of your family
Earthy Explorers – step outside and make the most out of being outdoors
Science Sleuths – sparking interest to get families investigating and experimenting this October

Learn together
Family learning is a fun and creative way of learning with your children and support their education.
Free family learning courses
If you’re looking for fun and beneficial ways to spend time learning together as a family, we offer free family learning courses for mums, dads and grandparents to learn with their children.
We provide a wide range of interesting and accessible classes where adults can learn alongside their children.
They also give you a chance to share ideas with other parents and develop your own skills. Our programmes also help you to progress to a further course in english and maths.
You also benefit by understanding how children learn and how best to support them.
All of our learning locations create a positive, welcoming and relaxed environment in which families can have fun learning together.
All programmes include opportunities for adults to get information, advice and guidance on how you can go further with your own learning and how you can get support for any literacy, language or numeracy need.
Courses include:
- Family Spanish & languages
- English
- Maths
Supporting you child’s learning
All parents want their children to do well at school and to succeed. However, many simply don’t know where to start.
Everything seems to have changed since your own schooldays, and you don’t want to confuse your children by using different methods to their teacher.
Family Learning can help.
Staffordshire schools deliver family english, maths and language programmes. They will give you the opportunity to find out how they teach things in your child’s school.
Wider family learning
These programmes will give you opportunities to have family fun. They also explore ways you can support your own children’s learning and development.
These courses also help parents and carers improve self-confidence and parenting skills.
For many, this is a first step towards further learning, voluntary work and/or paid employment.
You and your children can choose from a wide range of courses such as:
- Mellow Parenting
- Chatterbooks
- Story Sacks
We run the courses in various venues including libraries, children’s centres and schools, and are delivered in a supportive and friendly environment.
All family learning courses are available at no charge.
