Staffordshire county council subsidises the costs for adult and community learning, making most courses either heavily discounted or available at no cost to you
From September 2019, even more courses may be free if you have a low income and want to improve your skills. Find out more

The Staffordshire Community Learning Service works with independent training providers, local colleges and community groups to deliver a range of learning opportunities for adults aged 19+, their families and communities across all of Staffordshire
Our courses run in community venues in Stafford, Newcastle, Lichfield, Tamworth, Cannock, East and South Staffordshire and the Staffordshire Moorlands. Some courses can also be accessed online from the comfort of your own home.

English, Maths & Digital courses
Programmes for adults to gain confidence and functional skills to apply in everyday lives, work and further learning.
Programmes may include access to digital devices and connectivity, practical everyday English, maths and digital skills including the basics, collaborative technologies, accessing online services and e-safety.
Community and Family Progression
Programmes for parents, carers and guardians to develop skills that contribute to their community and family learning that equips individuals with the necessary skills to give their children the best start in life.
Programmes may include family budgeting, cookery, creative subjects, sustainability and community action projects, DIY, forest schools and early years, child behaviour and development and parenting courses
Science, Technology, Engineering & Maths (STEM) and Vocational courses
Programmes for adults who want to up-skill and re-skill to gain and improve employment opportunities.
Individuals will acquire skills in a specific vocational area and will feel more confident to apply for jobs, for example Engineering & Advanced Manufacturing, Advanced Logistics, Construction, Health and Social Care and Digital. Some programmes develop enterprise skills and provide information about support available to start up a business.
Independence and Wellbeing
Programmes for adults who have learning and/or disabilities and adults who have had long-term mental ill health who require more bespoke support to be successful in learning.
Programmes provide opportunities to develop self-awareness, improve and develop personal wellbeing and independence, achieve personal aspirations, improved health and financial management, getting involved in the local community and developing strategies to live a more sustainable life.
Direct Delivery Digital
Our direct delivery unit offers courses which can lead to a recognised qualification, accredited by an awarding body. Awards and certificates are available from Entry level 1 to Level 2.
These courses are designed to provide adults with the skills to be connected to the digital world, improving employment opportunities, financial and social well-being.
English Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL)
These courses are designed to improve language skills and support adults to learn more about life in the UK. Courses include speaking, reading and writing and will improve social well-being and employment opportunities.
