This course aims to improve confidence and self esteem through taking part in a wide range of community based activities that help people to move into volunteering.
Who is the course aimed at?
This course is aimed at people who would like to be more active in their own community and progress into volunteering. Skills developed on the course including wider skills such as maths, English and digital will increase learners’ confidence to progress when seeking new opportunities or sharing with the family.
You will learn a range of practical skills such as gardening techniques, woodwork and metal work to help to support local community projects whilst developing the skills to teach or support others.
Learners will have access to a community venue where skills can be put into practice and provide an environment that residents can access and enjoy.
Learners will be supported to access progression opportunities in to volunteering with further volunteering training or signposting to other partners in Staffordshire.
Entry Requirements
Staffordshire residents aged 19+ who would like to develop their skills and knowledge to support progression opportunities such as volunteering, further learning or employment or supporting family or home life. Learners need to be able to set and monitor their own learning goals and objectives and complete an enrolment form and course documentation unaided.
Course Content
Seasonal learning activities to help wellness and wellbeing. This includes cookery, crafts, woodwork, countryside skills, animal care, horticulture, floristry
Learning methods
Practical tasks, discussion, shared reading and individual learning plans that track personal development and progress.
Learner Support
From the start we will work with you to identify what support you may need. This may be reading, writing or practical skills. We also offer IT support if you need a little assistance in getting more out of your computer, phone or tablet. The staff and volunteers are all there to support you.
Learner Assessments
Learners will have an initial assessment via a phone call or face to face meeting as an introduction to the course and to establish needs. Ongoing feedback from tutors and assessing task completion and development.
Course Materials
All materials are provided free of charge.
What can learner do next/progress onto?
Learners can progress onto other STEM courses, volunteering, further learning or employment.
