This course will help you to increase your chances of securing a job by updating your existing skills, refreshing your curriculum vitae as well as gaining valuable work experience.
Who is the course aimed at?
The course is aimed at Staffordshire residents aged 19+ who live in a Staffordshire not Stoke-on-Trent postcode. This course supports individuals to getting nearer to the workplace.
Entry Requirements
No prior knowledge or experience is required. Potential learners must be willing to commit to all course sessions and be willing to work towards learning aims and complete a learner journal and work experience.
Course Content
Update your existing skills and gain new confidence and skills that employers value to improve your job prospects. This course supports a practical approach to increasing your chances of securing a job. Learn how to write a curriculum vitae, complete an application online, write a covering letter, complete interview exercises and telephone calls. Learners will explore the job market and roles that appeal to them and complete a one-day work placement (minimum).
Learning Methods
Face to face learning in a classroom or outdoor learning environment, using a variety of user-friendly learning styles and activities.
Learner Support
Learning support is offered throughout the course to meet learners’ needs, whether it be a scribe, a reading pen, an Ipad or a person to build confidence and point learners in the right direction.
Course assessment
Learners will be assessed at the start of the course to find their starting point and working level, throughout the course learners will be assessed formatively with tutor/learner reviews. At the end of the course learners can reflect on their progress and how they have achieved, tutors will assess learners summatively. Learners will be given the opportunity each week to review their learning and identify where they may need extra support to enable their full enjoyment and progress.
Course Materials
Come suitably dressed for activities both in and outdoors, i.e., warm clothes and a coat for winter weather. All materials for the course will be provided. You will be required to complete a learner journal.
What can learners do next/progress onto?
Learners can progress to the Staffordshire County Council Brokerage service which offers support and guidance with jobs, careers and apprenticeships.
