This course will explore ways to make your money go further and smart ways of using spreadsheets to improve productivity for work and everyday life. Learn how to create spreadsheets and use formulas to calculate data, displaying data using graphs and charts and store data whilst keeping your data secure.
Who is the course aimed at?
This course is for Staffordshire residents aged 19 and over. The course is designed for learners who have some knowledge of using a computer, wanting to find out more about and spreadsheets, formulae’s and tools to support employability skills, everyday life and work. This course is a progression course from More Digital Skills.

Course content
This course is aimed at those who wish to learn more about smart ways of using spreadsheets to improve productivity for work and everyday life. You will learn how to use spreadsheets to track your finances, keep a track of costs when planning an event or your weekly shop, explore how you can save money or improve your skills for work prospects? You will look at planning and creating spreadsheets, using the internet to find and compare prices, entering and formatting data, using various formulas to calculate data, use auto sum and replicate, displaying data using graphs and charts and storing data whilst keeping your data secure.
Learning methods
Teaching will include tutor led sessions in small groups, 1:1 tuition, tutor demonstration, quizzes, and practical exercises. You will work at your own pace and will complete the activities using your device or the library computer. You learning progress will be recorded.
Learning Support
Your tutor will support you throughout your learning journey. Your tutor will get to know you and what you want to achieve from the course and include this in the delivery of sessions. You will also have the opportunity to have some one-to-one time with your tutor.
Course assessments
Throughout the course you will complete a number of tasks relevant to your learning. Your tutor will give you feedback throughout using an Individual Learning Plan. The Individual Learning Plan records your learning and your achievement.
Learning materials
On enrolment you will need to provide proof of ID (passport, national ID card, driver’s licence) and proof of eligibility. For the course you will need a pen, a note pad and a documents folder. For homework you will need an internet connected device, either a PC, a laptop, an iPad, tablet or smart phone – you could do this at your local library.

Throughout the course your tutor will provide you with information and advice about other learning opportunities. When you have completed this course, you can progress onto another digital skills course. You may also want to gain a qualification to help you develop more skills for everyday life or for employment. You can also learn at home using Learn My Way, Skillswise or BBC Bitesize websites.
