Savvy Schooling

Savvy schooling will provide you with the opportunity to get to grips with up-to-date maths techniques used in the current curriculum.

You will be learning skills that will help with your everyday life as well as learning how you can support young people in developing their maths skills.

This short course will equip you with the first steps to re-engage with everyday maths with the potential to progress on to formal maths qualifications.

Who is the course aimed at?

Courses are designed for learners who want to improve their maths skills in a fun, practical way. Learners will also learn our to support children with school and homework.

Course content

Feel confident with Maths and learn to make it work in your favour, in every aspect of daily life.

Learning methods

Teaching will include tutor led sessions in small groups, 1:1 tuition, tutor demonstration, quizzes, and practical exercises.

Learning Support

Your tutor will support you throughout your learning journey. Your tutor will get to know you and what you want to achieve from the course and include this in the delivery of sessions. You will also have the opportunity to have some one-to-one time with your tutor.

Course assessments

Throughout the course you will complete a number of tasks relevant to your learning. Your tutor will give you feedback throughout using an Individual Learning Plan. The Individual Learning Plan records your learning and your achievement.

Learning materials

On enrolment you will need to provide proof of ID (passport, national ID card, driver’s licence) and proof of eligibility. For the course you will need a pen, a note pad and a documents folder. For homework you will need an internet connected device, either a PC, a laptop, an iPad, tablet or smart phone – you could do this at your local library.

What can learners do next after this course?

Throughout the course your tutor will provide you with information and advice about other learning opportunities. When you have completed this course, you can progress onto another digital skills course. You may also want to gain a qualification to help you develop more skills for everyday life or for employment. You can also learn at home using Learn My Way, Skillswise or BBC Bitesize websites.
