Join us as we learn some basic DIY skills, design and complete some practical team-based projects using a range of manual and power tools.
Who is the course aimed at?
This on-line course is for Staffordshire residents and parents aged 19+ who would like to learn a new skill; who may be experiencing or recovering from mental ill health or people who have a learning difficulty or unemployed. This introductory course will help build your confidence to move forwards and gain key life and work-based skills.
Entry Requirements
This is an introductory course and will provide an opportunity for you to gain confidence, use maths and digital skills, work as part of a team to design and create basic DIY projects of your own.
Course Content
This course will help you to learn and practice basic DIY skills such as how to use both manual and power tools for simple projects, saving you time and money safely. This course will also support problem-solving, maths and team work skills, as well as building your confidence and supporting your independence and employability skills.
Learning Methods
This is a face-to-face learning course with a ‘learning at home’ element – you will complete 4 hours face to face at CARE plus one hour home learning per week. The course will also provide an opportunity to socialise with others in the learning environment. Learning is supported with an on-line Padlet learning blog that you can access at CARE and at home.
Learning Support
Your Tutor will support your learning, including help to photograph and record your work using digital devices. Transport is available from Cannock Leisure Centre, Penkridge Village, Stafford Sainsbury’s, The Royal Oak car park at Rising Brook.
Course Assessments
At the start of your course the tutor will find out a little more about you, your previous learning, the support you may need, what you would like to achieve on the course and guide you to set some personal goals. During the course you will be asked to reflect on your learning at regular points and will receive feedback from your tutor on your progress and achievement. You will receive a personal certificate of achievement at the end of the course.

All course resources and equipment will be provided by CARE.
What can learner’s do next/progress onto?
At the end of the course you will be provided with information/advice on other learning opportunities/local activities available on-line and in your community. This may include Carpentry at NSCG and wider personal development including English, Multiply numeracy and digital skills. Family learning/wellbeing courses to support you and your family are also signposted through SCC CL Course Directory.
