This course is designed to introduce students to the safe operation and use of a Centre Lathe.
Who is this course aimed at?
The course is aimed at Staffordshire residents aged 19+ who are looking to start their journey to improving their Turning skills.
Entry Requirements
There are no formal entry requirements for this course.
Course Content
The course will cover safe operation of centre lathes, workholding methods, machining to size, measuring techniques, machining features such as faces and diameters, knurling, tapers, undercuts and drilling and tapping. On completion of the course a college certificate will be awarded identifying the skills achieved.
Learning Methods
You will be taught face to face in the workplace by a friendly and experienced assessor

Classes are small to ensure your teacher can provide you with the help and support you need to enable you to confidently access the class learning materials. Individual specific needs will be discussed at the start of the course.
Course Assessments
To ensure you are on track and your understanding of the course, your teacher will use verbal questions, observations and an individual learning plan to monitor your progress against the course outcomes.
Learning Materials
You will need to bring a pen and paper to take notes.
What can learners do next/progress onto?
This course will allow progression onto further engineering disciplines such Computer Aided Design (CAD) or Computer Numerical Control (CNC) in Turning.
