To introduce and help you feel more confident in gardening, wood working, recycling and the environment. Complete design and build garden projects as part of a team with other learners too.
Who is the course aimed at?
Staffordshire residents aged 19+ who would like to support their wellbeing, are experiencing or recovering from mental ill health or people who have a learning difficulty or are unemployed and who would like to re-engage with learning and supporting their journey towards volunteering and employment. This is an introductory course to learn about gardening wood working, recycling, upcycling, supporting our environment, and complete practical, design/build projects.

Open to all learners aged 19+
Course Content
Topics will include wood working skills, designing and building a garden woodwork project using recycled/upcycled materials, selecting, using and maintaining appropriate tools, small scale planting and propagation, eco friendly gardening practices to encourage wildlife into your garden and protect the environment.
Learning Methods
This course is a face-to-face learning course. The course will also give you the opportunity to develop your digital skills, learn with others and take part in sessions with your tutor. Learning is also supported with an on-line Padlet learning blog.
Learning Support
Your Tutor will support your learning, including help with wider IT skills to help you safely record and store your work. Transport is available from Cannock Leisure Centre and Stafford Sainsbury’s
Course Assessment
At the start of your course the tutor will find out a little more about you, your previous learning, the support you may need, what you would like to achieve on the course and guide you to set some personal goals. During the course you will be asked to reflect on your learning at regular points and will receive feedback from your tutor on your progress and achievement. You will receive a personal certificate of achievement at the end of the course.
Learning Materials
CARE will provide resources and equipment you will need to take part in the course. You will need to wear warm clothing and suitable footwear for the outdoors. You will be encouraged to provide a variety of recycled resources from home.
What can learners do next/progress onto?
At the end of the course, you will be given information and advice about other learning opportunities and local activities available to you both on-line and in your community. This could include vocational skills courses – Environmental studies, Green Crafts, Woodworking, English, Numeracy and wider personal development including digital skills.
