This course teaches key crafting skills using wood and metal to produce industry standard items. Skills developed on the course include wider, transferable skills supporting learners aspirations in to volunteering or employment. Also learning skills for enterprise.
Who is the course aimed at?
Staffordshire residents aged 19+ recovering from poor mental health, typically anxiety and depression
Entry Requirements
We don’t have any formal entry requirements apart from the ability to fill in a basic enrolment form and be physically mobile to complete tasks in our gardens and workshops.
Course Content
A wide variety of activities including welding, plasma cutting and woodwork. Using traditional hand tools and industry standard equipment. Activities will include the use of measuring tools and calibration of equipment.
Learning methods
1:1, Group discussion, theory and practical activities.
Learner Support
From the start we will work with you to identify what support you may need. This may be reading, writing or practical skills. We also offer IT support if you need a little assistance in getting more out of your computer, phone or tablet. The staff and volunteers are all there to support you.
Learner Assessments
An initial conversation with a tutor would check participants prior knowledge and experience and their interests and aspirations. We’re keen to know what you’d like to achieve by taking part in the course and how we can help you to achieve that. We encourage learners to improve their knowledge, skills and confidence to help them to move on with their lives.
Course Materials
All materials are provided free of charge.
What can learner do next/progress onto?
Throughout your course you will be provided with information and advice about other learning available for you. They may progress onto a further course (with different and more advanced outcomes). There may be opportunities for future volunteer training, access to other internal and external courses, accredited and non credited. During the course we will explore self employment and support learners where needed.
