This course will help you with your word power, develop your written skills and how they apply to the everyday use of English. A practical course that combines quizzes and games, in a friendly fun approach to develop your English skills.
Who is the course aimed at?
The course is aimed at Staffordshire residents aged 19+ who live in a Staffordshire not Stoke-on-Trent postcode. The course aims to help you to gain confidence and equip you with the necessary English skills to support your everyday life, including further learning and work. Improving your English skills will help you to be more confident and more active in your community and with your family.
Entry Requirements
No prior knowledge or experience is required but an interest in English and or/improving your literacy skills would be an advantage. Potential learners must be willing to commit to all course sessions and be willing to work towards learning aims and complete a learner journal. Learning support is available throughout your course if required.
Course Content
Brush up your English skills and revisit key written forms that you use everyday and enjoy writing creatively. From writing the perfect letter of complaint to get results, to covering letters for job applications to advertising your second hand goods on Ebay! All mixed in with fun word games to improve your word power and quizzes. Enjoy countryside walks to write a weekly journal of your time with us.
Learning Methods
Face to face learning in a classroom or outdoor learning environment, using a variety of learning styles and activities to include hands on learning, through demonstration and taking part, viewing teaching videos, completing handouts, group talks/discussions, quizzes and completing your own learning folder.
Learner Support
Learning support is offered throughout the course to meet learners’ needs, whether it be a scribe, a reading pen, an Ipad or a person to build confidence and point learners in the right direction.
Course assessment
Learners will be reviewed at the start, middle and end of the course. Learners will be given the opportunity each week to review their learning and identify where they may need extra support to enable their full enjoyment of their course or pursue additional areas of interest.
Course Materials
Please bring appropriate clothing for the course you will be participating in e.g. a waterproof and sturdy shoes because on some days you will be going out on a visit to a place of inspiration/interest . A packed lunch is required – drinks will be provided. All materials needed for the course will be supplied.
What can learners do next/progress onto?
Learners can progress onto: DIY and crafting, cooking, crafting and upcycling, upskill their English and Maths or develop skills to re-enter the workplace.
