ESOL: Community Essential Skills Level 1

This course will help support you with your English skills, as well as increasing your confidence.

Who is the course aimed at?

The course is aimed at Staffordshire residents aged 19+ who are looking to start their journey to improving their English skills

Entry requirements

There are no formal entry requirements.

Course content

Learners will focus on role play between students to gain confidence in different community scenarios. For example: giving advice/giving advice from past scenarios/ hypothetical scenarios/selling a  product. A community element will be embedded into the programme with a trip around the community- for example: students will research places of interest in Stafford and go on a walking tour of Stafford with a map and relevant questions. The group will visit the 2 churches: St Chad’s and St. Mary’s and follow a guide of questions that need answering.

Learning methods

You will be taught Face to Face with a friendly and supportive teacher

Learning Support

Classes are small to ensure your teacher can provide you with the help and support you need to enable you to confidently access the class learning materials. Individual specific needs will be discussed at the start of the course.

Course assessments

To ensure you are on track and have understanding of the course, your teacher will use verbal questions, observations and an individual learning plan to monitor your progress against the course outcomes.

Learning materials

You will require a pen and writing pad to support note taking during the course.

What can learners do next after this course?

During the course you and your teacher will explore progression options depending on your individual needs. Learners can progress onto an internal NSCG College offer and step up to a formal ESOL qualification or other Community Courses run by NSCG or be signposted to other local providers.

and 13/10/2023 – 21/06/2024, 1.15pm – 2.15pm, Fridays at:

This course is fully funded so there are no course fees.
