Dyslexia and Multisensory Learning-Online

This course offers attendees an introduction to what dyslexia is, its core deficits and secondary effects. It also focuses on how to develop literacy by following a structured language programme and some ‘quick fixes’ too.

Who is the course aimed at?

For Staffordshire Residents aged 19+ including: Parents, carers, those working in education, adults with dyslexia, employers.

Course content

Definition of dyslexia, main areas of difficulty and their impact on accurate and fluent literacy development, secondary impact, memory styles, how to follow a structured language programme, other ways of developing reading, writing and spelling skills.

Learning methods

You will take part in a weekly online session over Zoom/MS Teams led by your tutor, which will include videos, photos, practical activities and resources. You will also be able to access an online course pinboard (Padlet) to support your learning.

Learning Support

We encourage individuals with additional needs to participate in our course and offer 1-to-1 sessions to catchup any sessions missed, or to explore course content that attendees would benefit from exploring in more depth. Your tutor will also support you in accessing online sessions and/or resources.

Course assessments

You will have your own Learning Plan. Your tutor will give you feedback and assess your progress through discussions, demonstrations and completion of activities.

Learning materials

To take part in this online course you will need to access to the internet and a suitable device – e.g. smartphone, ipad, tablet, computer, smartphone or other device. You will also need approx. 100 pieces of card, cut to business card size.

What can learners do next after this course?

Our other courses, Level 2 in Dyslexia Awareness, Level 5-7 to become a dyslexia specialist teacher/assessor.

This course is fully funded so there are no course fees.

All of our courses are delivered by expert local learning partners across Staffordshire.  This specific course is delivered by Dyslexia Association of Staffordshire.
