Introduction to basic digital skills for everyday life and specific employment-related skills, such as using office software and social media for employment. A focus on practical application of skills to find work and use when in workplace, including digital communication and being safe online.
Who is the course aimed at?
Adults with low level or basic digital and work skills. Those who need to upskill and use IT in order to successfully embark on employment.
Entry Requirements
There are no formal entry requirements.
Course content
This course will cover all first hand computer and IT skills to support personal and work skills..
Key contents include:
1) Using device and IT information
2) Digital communication and reading skills
3) Developping software skills – word, excel, PPT
4) Intro to social media
5) Being safe online
Learning Methods
This course will be delivered in groups, this can be classroom based or remotely via Microsoft Teams allowing active participation.
Learning Support
Initial assessment and an induction will take place to ascertain learner needs and the current level of understanding of the subject through an Individual Learning Plan. The tutor will apply strategies to support individual needs if required. The range of learning activities and levels should allow for more tailored support.
Course assessments
Ongoing formative assessment during sessions to ascertain knowledge and understanding and progress being made. Q&A and feedback will occur during each session. Regular assessments for development will happen to ensure skills are developed.
Learning materials
Resource library of tutor led and group activities. Workbooks and interactive materials will be embedded. Digital equipment will be available for learners to use if onsite in classroom. All learning materials will be provided. Learners will need to have access to a computer or tablet and WiFi connection.

During the course you and your teacher will explore progression options depending on your individual needs. This may include: employment or other Non-accredited Community Learning English or digital skills, Essential Digital Skills qualifications and Functional Skills qualifications.
