This introduction course will cover the basics of IT. You will be guided through a variety of IT functions including using emails effectively, how to stay safe online, understanding and accessing internet banking and shopping safely online.
Aim of the course
The course is aimed at those who either have very little or basic IT skills and need to improve their basic IT skills to take part in further IT Learning or employment in order to further develop. This course is tailored around those learners who are not familiar with using IT equipment, therefore, by attending this course – familiarity will be key for learners as a positive outcome.
Entry Requirements
An individual aged nineteen (19) or over on 31st August within the Contract Period, residing within the eight (8) Staffordshire districts. All target groups, and specifically: parents, carers and guardians who wish to develop their skills, and new adult Learners.
Course Content
This introduction to IT takes you through the basics. You will confidently learn how to send an email and add attachments. You will learn the steps to take to keep yourself safe online when accessing the internet.
How you will learn
The trainer will deliver the course in a friendly and welcoming classroom environment. You will have the opportunity to work independently and with your peers in a range of activities and discussions.

Learners will be provided with all course materials as part of the programme.
Learner Support
All sessions are adapted according to the individual needs of learner. Accessibility: Newcastle: Inaccessible for those with limited mobility. Burton: Ground floor fully accessible. Biddulph: Lift available fully accessible. English and Maths initial assessments are carried out prior to the start of the course.
Learner Assessment
Learners will be initially assessed to identify their starting points, personal goals and recognise any support needs. During the course learners will be assessed via informal feedback on work produced, verbal feedback during discussions & Q & A. Learners will also take part in reviews consistent with the length of the course.

Throughout your course you will be provided with information and advice about other learning opportunities available. We have a range of opportunities for you to progress onto based on your needs and aspirations. Progression could include further courses such as Essential Digital Skills for Everyday Life.
