Explore your creativity and develop new skills with this lovely art course – a gentle journey with sketchbook and pencil to watercolours that you can share with your family and friends. Our on-line tutorials provide step by step support so you can complete finished pieces of work, all inspired by local beauty spots across Staffordshire. This course will help you to improve your self-confidence and self-esteem, inspire you to learn new skills and engage with nature outdoors to support your own wellbeing.
Who is the course aimed at?
Staffordshire residents aged 19+ who would like to support their wellbeing, are experiencing or recovering from mental ill health or people who have a learning difficulty or unemployed and who would like to re-engage with learning. This is an introductory course to learn about basic sketching and drawing.

Course Content
This course will help you to improve your self-confidence and self-esteem by learning a new skills. We will introduce you to some basic sketching and watercolour painting resources, skills and techniques so that you can produce finished art to share with your family and friends. You will be encouraged to take references for your art from the great outdoors around you.
Learning Methods
The course is delivered online through a closed Facebook group or an on-line blog so you will develop your digital skills, learn with others online and take part in sessions on Zoom. Your tutor will also support your learning using Zoom, email and/or telephone conversations.
Learning Support
Your tutor will support your online learning; you will be asked to complete online forms, upload comments and photos and watch recorded material. We will provide you with sketching and drawing materials and an art journal so that you can take part in the course. This will be delivered to your home address prior to the start date of the course.
Course Assessments
At the start of your course, the tutor will find out a little more about you, your previous learning, the support you may need, what you would like to achieve on the course, and guide you to set some personal goals. During the course, you will be asked to reflect on your learning at regular points and will receive feedback from your tutor on your progress and achievement. You will receive a personal certificate of achievement at the end of the course.
Learning Materials
To take part in the online course you will need access to the internet and a suitable device – smartphone/ipad/tablet/laptop/computer. CARE will provide sketching materials, and an art journal so that you can take part.
What can learner’s do next/progress onto?
At the end of the course you will be provided with information/advice on other learning opportunities/local activities available on-line and in your community. This could include vocational skills courses in Arts and Crafts, Environmental studies, Green Crafts, art journaling, and wider personal development including English, numeracy and digital skills. Family learning/wellbeing courses to support you, your families are also signposted through SCC CL Course Directory.
