Mad about animals? The course will explore animal management, animal training, nutrition, anatomy, behaviour management, physiology and looking after animals regarding their health and disease prevention.
Who is the course aimed at?
The course is aimed at Staffordshire residents aged 19+ who live in a Staffordshire not Stoke-on-Trent postcode. The course is for individuals who have knowledge of the subject or previous experience in animal management/care related subjects and have ambitions to further their knowledge and learning. The aim being to improve their employment prospects in this sector.
Entry Requirements
Some knowledge or experience in animal related subjects is desirable. Potential learners must be committed to all course sessions and be willing to work towards learning aims in animal biology, anatomy/physiology and animal care and complete an Individual Learning Plan and learner journal. Learning support is available throughout your course if required.
Course Content
Passionate about animals? This “hands on” course based on a working farm, will explore the different aspects of animal care and management of both domestic and farm pets from rabbits to Shire horses. This course will cover all the basics and allow you to progress onto an accredited course at college or onto employment. As part of your course you will visit an animal rescue /rehoming centre and/or an equestrian centre.
Learning Methods
Face to face learning in a classroom or outdoor learning environment, using a variety of learning styles and activities to include practical demonstration, learners taking part, viewing teaching videos, completing handouts, group talks/discussions/feedback, quizzes, digital presentations and completing your own learning folder.
Learner Support
Learning support is offered throughout the course to meet learners’ needs, whether it be a scribe, a reading pen, an Ipad or a person to build confidence and point learners in the right direction.
Course assessment
Learners will be reviewed at the start, middle and end of the course. Learners will be given the opportunity each week to review their learning and identify where they may need extra support to enable their full enjoyment of their course or pursue additional areas of interest.
Course Materials
Please bring appropriate clothing for the course you will be participating in e.g. outdoor clothing- as you will be working with animals, together with boots or wellingtons. A packed lunch is required – drinks will be provided. All materials needed for the course will be supplied.
What can learners do next/progress onto?
Learners can progress onto: woodworking and tree science or further courses in the next term.
