Woodwork & Construction

This course will cover a wide variety of construction techniques including woodwork, lathe work, joinery, using hand tools, plasma cutting, welding and metalwork.

Who is the course aimed at?

Aimed at those who wish to develop a deeper understanding of woodwork and construction this course will cover a wide variety of skills and techniques that are used in woodwork or the construction of other items using a range of materials.
The course provides opportunity for learners to make a range of items, some of which will contribute to local venues such as Sudbury Hall or charitable community events.
Learners will develop the knowledge and skills to not only make products but also consider opportunities to sell their own goods via a range of channels.
Wider skills such as English, maths and digital will also be developed using a range of strategies such as Shared reading. There will also be an opportunity to take part in industry visits to learn about how other partners make and sell items.

Entry requirements

Learners need to be able to set and monitor their own learning goals and objectives and complete an enrolment form and course documentation unaided.

Course Content

You will learn a wide variety of construction techniques including woodwork, lathe work, joinery, using hand tools, plasma cutting and welding.

Learning Methods

Practical tasks, discussion, shared reading and individual learning plans that track personal development and progress.

Learner Support

From the start we will work with you to identify what support you may need. This may be reading, writing or practical skills. We also offer IT support if you need a little assistance in getting more out of your computer, phone or tablet. The staff and volunteers are all there to support you.

Course Assessments

Learners will have an initial assessment via a phone call or face to face meeting as an introduction to the course and to establish needs. Informal assessment, discussion and ILRs.

Course Materials

All course materials are provided free of charge.

What can learners do next/progress onto?

Learners can progress into further learning, volunteering or employment.
