Curious about crafting? This practical course involves ways to develop a variety of crafting skills that can be done with your family or made with the community in mind.
Who is the course aimed at?
The course is aimed at Staffordshire residents aged 19+ who live in a Staffordshire but not a Stoke-on-Trent postcode. Our course aims to develop transferable crafting skills that parents, guardians or other family members can develop and then share with their family. Practical skills learnt will encourage learners to share those experiences with the wider family, promoting a sense of family progression and enjoyment. Where learners may have children the course will inspire them to share practical times creating a range of items with them and away from the everyday attraction to screen time activities. Some learners may wish to support local and national organisations in making sellable items for good causes for those in need.
Entry Requirements
No prior knowledge or experience is required but an interest in crafting and creativity would be an advantage. Potential learners must be willing to commit to all course sessions and be willing to work towards learning aims and complete a learner journal. Learning support is available throughout your course if required.
Course Content
Express your creativity, learn new transferable skills using a range of natural/sustainable materals which you can further explore with your family or work towards creating something useful that will benefit your local community. You will learn how to quill paper, carry out the ancient craft of pyrography, discover how to willow weave and make decorative items from yarns and wools.
Learning Methods
Face to face learning in a classroom or outdoor learning environment, using a variety of learning styles and activities. Learners complete weekly reflections on their progress including how the course has had postive impacts on their personal or family life.
Learner Support
Learning support is offered throughout the course to meet learners’ needs, whether it be a scribe, a reading pen, an Ipad or 1:1 classroom support to build confidence and guide learners in the right direction.
Course assessment
Learners will be reviewed at the start, middle and end of the course. Learners will be given the opportunity each week to reflect with their learning and identify where they may need extra support to achieve their desired learning goals and to enable their full enjoyment of their course or pursue additional areas of interest. Learners will reflect in their learning half way through the course with a mid-term review and again at the end of the course with an end of learner course evaluation.
